Student Code of Conduct
This Student Code of Conduct (“Code of Conduct”) is designed to promote a healthy and safe environment that encourages academic, social, and emotional development for all students taking classes offered by the Latin American Association (“LAA”). Students are entitled to learn in an environment free of harassment, intimidation, bullying, and violence, and as such, LAA expects all students to demonstrate respect for others and behave in a responsible manner.
Further, it is the LAA’s policy to prohibit harassment of any individual by another person on the basis of any protected classification including, but not limited to, race, color, age, gender, including gender identity and gender expression, national origin, disability, religion, marital status, military or veteran status, sexual orientation, mental or physical disability, medical condition, or genetic information.
Harassment or inappropriate behavior prohibited by this Code of Conduct includes any and all verbal, physical and visual conduct that others may find offensive including, but is not limited to:
- Acts of aggression or violence made toward or by any student.
- Discriminatory jokes and language.
- Sharing sexually explicit or violent material via electronic devices or other means.
- Personal insults, especially those using racist or sexist terms.
- Unwelcome sexual attention.
LAA prohibits students from engaging in harassment or inappropriate behavior not only while in the classroom but also when communicating with students and/or teachers outside the classroom via phone calls, emails, messaging apps, etc.
If a student feels that he or she has been subjected to conduct that violates this Code of Conduct, he or she should immediately report the matter to LAA’s Adult Education Manager.
